I. Rationale: 

Biochemistry lies on the interface between the disciplines of Biology and Chemistry. It lays foundation for physiology, pharmacology and molecular medicine.

II. Cour= se Aims and Objectives: 

Aims

It is essential for future careers in pharmaceuticals, biomedical research, medicine and dentistry.

 

Specific Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, students will:

At the conclusion of their studies, students should possess a general working knowledge of the basic areas of biochemistry; have the ability to carry out= strategies for solving scientific problems; have an understanding of the principles and applications of modern instrumentation, computation, experimental design, a= nd data analysis;  have an awareness o= f the broader implications of biochemical processes.

The course has multiple formats, mostly lecture, but mix= ed with group discussion and presentations.

We implemented preceptor system.  There will be 6 study groups lead by the following preceptors.  You are stro= ngly encouraged to join a study groups.  Please contact preceptors for joining a study groups:

Religious Holy Days

3. Assignments, Assessment, and Evaluation

(a)  Policy concerning homework

There are 5 homeworks that will be posted online on the course website.  The homeworks will not be graded, but w= ill be helpful to understand the lectures and prepare for exams.=

(b)=   Policy concerning make-up exams.  In case of sickness, emergency or other unexpected events, make-up exams can be requested with proper written notes= .                  

                                 (d) Grading processes and criteria

There will be six (6) exams, with 100 pts each.  The best of five exam scores, or a tota= l of 500 pts are used to calculate course grades. 

                               

 

Course grades will be based on total points earned.  Grades will be as follows:

                                <= /span> B+  87% to 90% ; B  83% to 87% ; B-  80 to 83 %
